  • Our curriculum
  • Our Early Years Programme aims at creating an environment where children can experience the fundamental touchstones of the Edmund Rice Schools with joy and from a very early age. The Programme is thus a paramount development stage for 3 to 5-year-olds.

Our educational environment helps children to both socialise with others and boost their individual growth process, with emphasis on games as a didactic methodology. In a safe space run by professionals, the right conditions are created to foster confidence and the will for self-improvement.

Our Charter seeks to create a community where joy, hope, honesty and effort can flourish; where each individual is valued and respected. We are committed to reaching our full potential in everything we undertake, and we thus aim at encouraging each child to be willing to reach, within his or her capacities, their own potential as well.

The Early Years Programme focuses on the learning process as of 3 years of age. The main elements that guide our daily activities include: affection, creativity, physical movement, participation in the classroom, respect for each child’s timing, coping with time and using the space around us.

We are a team of teachers working together with a psychologist, an educational psychologist, a speech therapist and a specialist in psychomotricity. Each child’s learning process and his or her accomplishments are monitored, stimulated and systematically appraised.

We work on the main development areas (language, mathematics, motor, social and emotional areas) to guide each child so that they can deploy those competencies as best they can. Our early prevention approach helps us detect the need for necessary and timely intervention.

Our integral education comprises a set of curricular areas: Spanish language, English language, Religious Education, Artistic Expression (music and corporal expression), Psychomotor Skills, Physical Education and IT. Linguistic, mathematical, scientific and social skills are learnt through meaningful project-based activities.

Our staff is made up of certified professionals who, as a School requirement, undergo regular professional development sessions with local or international experts.

  • Religious education
  • Explorers:

The aim of this course level is to discover God, our friend, who is present in our families, our friends and our educational community.

Our starting point is always the Word of God, which allows us to know him as Father Creator. His Word is also meant to illuminate all liturgical celebrations as well as prayer. Children are thus introduced to Edmund Rice and to Virgin Mary, role models of Christian values.

Recreational days, Edmund Rice’s month and several social justice campaigns are essential components to the development of our School’s project, which seeks to celebrate God’s love.

    Kinder:

God speaks to me: God speaks to me; He reaches out for me. Everything is God’s word for man (for me), but in a unique way. Where, how and when does He speak to me? Discovering God as someone close to us.

A simple biography of Edmund Rice. An account with emphasis on emotional aspects: we long to know him because He is good to us: he is caring, sensitive and willing to help.

Focus: God speaking to us in a way that we can understand Him as humans.

Methodology: (Symbols as means of educating children). The central symbol is the BIBLE: what God intends to convey to us. Learning to cherish the Bible.

    Prep:

God speaks and commits Himself to us through Jesus: God, who speaks to me, is committed to all of us. God says everything to us through Jesus – who sacrificed his life for us. Moving from ‘God Creator’ to ‘Jesus’ as a close friend.

Edmund Rice’s story as an exemplary life that illuminates us and brings us closer to Jesus.

Focus: the best Word God has given us is Jesus.

Methodology: standing in awe before God’s creation - through Jesus’ teachings. Contemplation: looking around ourselves and allowing ourselves to be amazed. Action: transforming, molding reality as a potter, taking care of the others, cultivating relationships with God’s Creation and with the environment.

  • Physical education and sports
  • Our goal at Physical Education is to develop motor, cognitive, personal and social skills in our students to their full potential, thus contributing, with other school areas, to the student’s integral education.

Physical games are utilised as a tool to develop basic motor skills.

There is P.E. twice a week for 4-year-old (Kinder) and 5-year-old (prep) pupils.

  • Education in English
  • Our students’ first contact with the English language is through stories, songs, poems, games and multimedia resources and through training in daily routines both in and outside the classroom. In order to develop communication skills in a second language, children must be offered a wide range of learning opportunities to experience a rich linguistic environment, to develop self-confidence and the competences required to grasp and express themselves in diverse situations.

We implement Jolly Phonics, a programme designed to favour the early acquisition of reading and writing skills through phonological awareness (association of sounds and letters).
